At age 14, Susan performed as soloist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Patrick Thomas in the concert hall of the Sydney Opera House. Since that time, she has performed as soloist and recitalist throughout Australia, the USA and Europe. As a soloist, Susan has been featured at events including Opera in the Vineyards with Yvonne Kenny, in MONA’s Dark Mofo and Synesthesia festivals, Ten Days on the Island and Newcastle Music festivals.

Critically acclaimed commercial CD releases include the complete violin works of Raymond Hanson (Tall Poppies) with pianist, David Miller, the complete Schumann Piano Trios (ABC Classics) with Duncan Gifford and Sue-Ellen Paulsen, and Fritz Hart Music for Violin and Piano with Stephanie McCallum (Toccata Classics).

A passionate educator, Susan held the position of Coordinator of Strings and Orchestras at the University of Tasmania Conservatorium from 2014 to 2021, following a 6-year tenure at the University of Newcastle. In 2022, Susan joined the panel of international judges for the Lipizer Violin Competition in Italy.

From 1992 until 2001, Susan held the position of Deputy Concertmaster of the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra and in 2003 was awarded the Australian Centenary Medal for her contribution to Opera and Ballet. She has performed as concertmaster with many Australian orchestras including the QSO, TSO, ASO and OV.

As conductor, Susan directed the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Games in 2013. Since 2018, Susan is Musical Director of the Riverina Summer School for Strings and Concert Series, where she directs the Sounds of Summer Camerata. In 2021, Susan founded the Nova Muse Festival in Penguin, Tasmania as Artistic Director, violinist, and conductor. After moving to Queensland in 2022, Susan conducted the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra’s final 2022 Metro Concert, and has recently accepted the position of conductor for the newly formed Gold Coast Health Orcehstra.

Musical highlights for Susan in 2024 include: performing recitals for the National Conservatory in Mexico City, conducting masterclasses in the USA and Australia, conducting the Victorian Opera’s production of Malcolm Williamson’s English Eccentrics, working with the wonderful committee and musicians of the Gold Coast Health Orchestra, directing the Nova Muse festival in Tasmania, and performing alongside great friends in the Sydney Chamber Music Festival.
